The Brazil Subzone has a long history in working with the laity. This is not something new for the subzone, but we are called to strengthen this partnership even more.

Service is the trademark of religious and missionary life. The unselfish love and the humble service to all people in need, in particular to the poor and marginalized, are the marks of a transforming missionary disciple.

For the past years, our Brazil Subzone has been striving to grow in this partnership. Since 1995 we have been meeting to celebrate, evaluate, and plan together with the lay people, our SVD presence in Brazil.  In 2005 and 2010 we met together for deepening our life and mission. We have taken some steps; nevertheless, we need to improve even more this togetherness. As partners in the mission, we gather here in Santa Isabel to reflect on our life and commitment to the mission.

The theme for this Congress that was held at Santa Isabel on July 8 to 12, 2019 was “SVD and the Laity committed in the mission”. Participated in this Congress 118 lay people, 19 seminarians, 82 SVD confreres (6 Brothers and 76 priests), and three SSpS. Also Father Superior General Paulus Budi Kleden and General Councilor Anselmo Ribeiro attended the meeting.

Together we renewed our commitment with the Divine Word to being witnesses of his Word so that we make a difference in the world where we live and work. This coming together these days will help us establish a journey of complementarity in the mission.
