What began in 1956 as an Institute of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, developed by 1967 into a three-day Religious Education Congress for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. In 1970, the event moved to the Anaheim Convention Center and it has grown over the last 40+ years to become the largest annual gathering of Catholics in the United States.

The Congress offers participants a unique opportunity to grow in faith, take part in formational workshops and inspiring liturgies, and connect with the worldwide Church. For the first time this year the Tri Province Vocation Team hosted an exhibit booth staffed by Vocation Directors Adam MacDonald, Anthony Cong Nguyen and Duy Linh Tran on the weekend of February 24–26.

They greeted a steady flow of visitors, allowing the young and young at heart to learn about the religious missionary vocation while picking up a variety of promotional materials they could take to their families, parishes and schools.

The Divine Word presence at the Congress resulted in several referrals of young men who expressed interest in the possibility of discerning a vocation with the SVD community. Plans are already underway to host a vocations booth again at the 2018 Los Angeles Religious Education Congress as a way of making the Divine Word name known to a wider audience and in the hope of inviting many more young men to consider God’s call!
