The 4th National Mission Congress of Brazil, promoted by the Pontifical Mission Societies (Pontificias Obras Missionarias – POM), in communion with the National Missionary Council (Comina) and the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife, was held between September 7-10 in Recife, Brazil.

The central theme of the Congress was “The joy of the Gospel to a church in exodus,” was prepared by a team of Latin American Missiologists (Relami), with a text as the point of departure for the Congress. The basic text is a small document that  contemplates three main themes:

I) The joy of the Gospel; II) Synodality and Communion, and III) Testimony and Prophecy. The famous Latin American, See, Judge and Act method was used, but the primary focus of the document is The Church in Exodus in the Ad Gentes perspective.

The primary intent of the Congress was to boost the local church of Brazil for a dynamism and to walk together in the testimony of the joy of the Gospel, of communion and of prophecy in the commitment to "the joys and the hopes, the griefs and the anxieties of the men and women of today, especially the poor and those who suffer "(GS 1).

The SVDs were represented by four confreres in different capacities. Bishop Jose Bertanha, Bishop of Registro (BRC); Joao Maria Ferreira (BRS) as Mission Secretary; Ajay Kullu (BRS) as representative of the diocese of Navirai and Joachim Andrade (BRS) as a member of the organizing team of the Congress. There were around 800 participants, including bishops, priests, religious men and women from all corners of Brazil.
