Dear confreres, lay partners, and members of the Arnoldus Family: Warm greetings to all of you! As we continue celebrating the Season of Easter, we are gratefully mindful of the blessings of joy and peace which the Risen Lord brings to us all.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we experience significant "epiphanies" about ourselves, the world, and humanity as a whole. In the last update we mentioned that one confrere was in the hospital after being confirmed positive of Corona virus. Thanks to God, he is out of the hospital and is back to the community. Some days ago, a Provincial Superior informed us that two confreres of his province are currently in the hospital undergoing treatment for Covid-19.

Another Provincial Superior has just shared that two of his members have also been confirmed positive. We personally thank our confreres who are helping and accompanying these confreres. We also send our thanks to the medical staff who are taking care of them.

Again, we would like to remind everyone to take the necessary precautions to avoid Covid-19 infection and to stay healthy. Your health is also the health of everyone. As we face the great challenges of this pandemic, we also realize that overcoming this crisis is possible if we come together and work for the common good.

We have received news and information from you, sharing your pastoral programs and initiatives to attend to the needy, the abandoned, the sick, and the migrants, among others. You are not alone in this endeavor. We are happy to know that you serve the least in our society in collaboration with our lay partners in our schools, institutions, parishes, and universities.  In many places, you encourage people not to discriminate against the sick and those who take care of them. To know and appreciate the PRMs' outreach programs, please visit www.svdcuria.org or read the latest issue of the Arnoldus Nota.

Another creative initiative worthy of mention here is the joint effort taken by some Mission Procures and Provinces. They have launched a campaign soliciting help to finance different programs for the neediest in Latin America, Asia, and Africa. From their websites, you may get information about their efforts of raising funds and also watch video clips about the same. This is a campaign for solidarity at its best.

Since the well-being of confreres and lay partners is our foremost concern, and since the situation is still uncertain insofar as the Covid-19 pandemic is concerned, we have decided to postpone the workshop for the new PRM Superiors originally scheduled to be held in June-July and the workshop for our SVD Lay partners slated for September, until further notice. The safety and health of our confreres and lay partners is our first concern.

We need to find suitable ways to accompany the new PRM Superiors in their new service. We do not know how long this pandemic will last. It is too early now to think of and to present new ways and strategies for realizing our mission. Yet, one thing is clear: we need each other; our sense of unity as a family has to be strengthened and lived out consequently. We have learned that to face the pandemic, everybody counts. We can foresee that to enter into the new situation after the pandemic requires from each one of us a renewed commitment as a member of the Society. Solidarity and responsibility from every member, community and PRM is our strength.

On May 4, Italy initiated a gradual loosening of the lockdown. But strict social distancing will be enforced to combat the Covid-19 virus. Here in the Generalate, the community will adhere to the government's directives in a prudent and responsible manner. We are also happy that now every one of us in the General Council is back in Rome.

Rest assured of our prayers and moral support. We pray for that holy light to illumine our path and steps. This light is the Lord's light, which is the same light we share with our confreres, our families, and our lay partners.                                  May the Lord bless us and keep us as we walk together on our journey.
