The Holy Father Francisco appointed Father José Luis Corral SVD, Cordovan of 50 years, coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Añatuya, in the province of Santiago del Estero.

Father Corral is currently the provincial superior of the Southern Argentina Province of the congregation of the Divine Word, and eventually will happen in the episcopal seat of Añatuya the current bishop, Monsignor José Melitón Chávez.

The appointment was made known, through the AICA Agency and the responsible of business of the Apostolic Nunciature, Monsignor Aliaksandr Rahinia.

Biographical information of Mons. José Luis Corral SVD

He was born on August 12, 1968 in the city of Córdoba, the youngest of five children. He completed his primary studies at the Vicente Fidel López school in the Alem-Talleres Oeste, district of the Cordoba capital and secondary education at the Sagrada Familia Institute of the Compañía de Jesús in the Pueyrredón neighborhood of the city of Córdoba.

He entered the Postulancy of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Divine Word (SVD) in 1987 and the Novitiate in 1988. He issued his first religious profession on February 20, 1989 and perpetual vows on February 20, 1996. He was ordained a deacon on February 21, 1996 and received the priestly ordination on March 1, 1997 from the hands of Monsignor Roberto Rodríguez, then auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Córdoba.

His philosophical and theological studies he studied at the Center for Philosophical and Theological Studies (CEFyT) directed by the Claretian Missionaries in the city of Córdoba. He is a professor of Philosophy and Sacred Sciences, and a degree in Religious Sciences from the Catholic University of Córdoba.

From 1997 to 2001 he was parish priest of Our Lady of Sorrows, in the town of Tumbaya, diocese of Jujuy.

In 2001 he was appointed Formator of the Postulants, and from 2002 to 2008 he served as the Novice Teacher of the Divine Word Congregation, both offices in the city of Córdoba.

From 2005 to 2008, he was elected Provincial Councilor.

From 2008 to 2011 he was parish vicar of San Isidro Labrador, in the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela.

From 2011 to 2014 he was Master of Novices, in the Latin American Novitiate of the Southern Subzone, in Asunción, Paraguay.

In 2014, he was elected Provincial Superior of the Southern Argentina Province of the Missionaries of the Divine Word, a position he holds until today. It is his second term as Provincial.

The Diocese of Añatuya in the North of Argentina

It was created on April 10, 1961 by Pope John XXIII. It includes in the province of Santiago del Estero the departments of Alberdi, Juan Felipe Ibarra (Matará), Copo, Belgrano, General Taboada, Mariano Moreno and the eastern area of the Salado River in the department of Figueroa, with an area of 68,000 km2 and a population of 214,415 inhabitants, of whom 90 percent proclaim themselves to be Catholics. It has 24 parishes, 28 priests of which 17 are diocesan and 11 religious; 93 religious, and 26 educational centers of the Church. - Argentine Catholic Information Agency
