Brother Bela Lanyi was born on July 25, 1959, in Budapest. Before joining SVD, Brother Bela studied architecture in Budapest, where he obtained a Master's degree in architecture. He was a construction consultant in Moscow, before entering religious life.

His formation was carried out in San Gabriel, Austria, due to the communism existing in his country at that time. He made his first religious vows in 1989, completed his formation, and made his perpetual vows in 1993.
As a religious Brother, he worked, in addition to being an architect, as a religious formator. He was assigned to Belarus, where he also served as Regional Consultant and Vice Chancellor at SVD House in Belarus. There he helped in rebuilding dilapidated churches after years of Soviet neglect, and in building new churches.

He was transferred to the Nazareth Mission House in Budapest, Hungary, where he successively assumed responsibilities as Provincial Consultant, then Vice Provincial. He worked as vice-rector, master of novices and prefect of scholastics. Later, he also served as Secretary of Mission.

In 2007, he was assigned to the Philippines, and based at the St. Joseph Freinademetz House of Formation in Cebu, when Brother Romy Abulad SVD was the Rector. In the time he lived in the formation community, Brother Bela was the formator of candidates for Brothers, and was also a professor at the University of San Carlos, Cebu. Currently, he is the OIC / head of the Department of Architecture of the San Carlos University.

In addition, Brother Bela is the editor of LANTAWAN magazine, which is the official publication of the School of Architecture, Fine Arts and Design of the University of San Carlos. He is also editor of SVD BROTHERS, the official in-house publication of SVD Brothers worldwide, and whose name is now SVD Brothers Forum.

But Brother Bela is not only a great professional, a teacher, and an editor, he is also a great SVD religious missionary with a great heart to accompany those who need love and care the most. Despite his many responsibilities, Brother Bela makes time to visit the children of the Community Scout, home for minors at risk, every Sunday. He brings them his friendly presence as an older brother, and there he teaches catechism and organizes meaningful workshops, retreats, and activities. Hopefully, Brother Bela's missionary witness will inspire many today.
